SWEAT, CULTURE AND BUFF: FINNISH SAUNAFEST
The Gershwin Hotel proudly presents their 4th Annual Rooftop Finnish Saunafest.
An "event hotel" located in Flatiron, Manhattan, The Gershwin will be hosting this one-of-a-kind cross-cultural happening on the rooftop of their landmark hotel at (7 east 27th St.) Wednesday, October 1st through Saturday, October 4th from 8pm-11pm.
Hundreds of New Yorkers (Moby, Russel Simmons and Tone-Loc among others) have already experienced Saunafest at the Gershwin: the heat and the smell of a real wood burning Finnish Sauna, the primal ritual of fire, water and sky in a contemporary setting - the skyline of Manhattan.
SAUNA is flown directly from Finland and will be set up in a Russian military tent, dating from World War II. Sauna is staged by the Sauna-Gnomes of the internationally famous Hoyryklubi (Steam club) of the underground culture of Helsinki, Finland.
Both local and Finnish musicians and DJs will provide the soundtrack for this primitive tribal experience. Contemporary Finnish movies will be shown to those who want to chill after bathing in the heat of the night.
This event is open to everybody. Donation is $20 per person. All proceeds will go to a children charity.
The Gershwin Hotel is known for their quirky and offbeat performance series, such as The Manhattan Screenings, the Neke Carson Evening as well as for its Andy Warhol connection.
Dance, drink and sweat. Get close with your world family. A cleansing experience on the roof of Manhattan. Reservation is a must. RSVP at 212-252-1005. For more information, please e-mail to
