Any guesses on major changes?

2008? McCain vs. Hillary?

No, it's gonna be Mitt Romney (http://www.runmittrun.org/) vs. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

But is he well known enough?* I sense a disinterest in politics right now, so a relative unknown who has not been around for 10 years in national politics may not do well.

*sports or entertainment does seem to work as a way in

---Although saying he has no plans to run for president in 2008, former vice president Al Gore has nonetheless left the door ever so slightly ajar. It's a good bet that door will swing open a good bit wider come next May.

That is when Gore is scheduled to publish his next book. With no fanfare, he signed a few weeks ago with Penguin Press to write "The Assault on Reason."...

...While that may sound abstract, both the subject matter and the timing of the release have an unmistakable subtext. In 2004, Gore cheered liberals when he lashed at President Bush for allegedly falling captive to right-wing special interests and taking flight from "fact-based analysis." If the book strikes a chord, it will produce new momentum for Gore to make another bid for the White House, presumably fueled in large part by anti-Iraq-war Democrats.

Onpas aivan uusi tuttavuus tuo Mitt Romney. Kaikkea sitä Etusivulla oppii! :) Ihanko hänellä olisi realistiset mahdollisuudet vai onko tuo vain "wishful thinking?"

Don't you believe that yet another Bush would run? Remember that it was Florida's governor Jeb Bush who was with Colin Powell to visit Iraq a couple of years ago. Why? There is no reason for Bush to attend foreign trips as a governor of Florida. Was he launching his campaign?

No, old names are gone, and a Bush is a Bush, wheras Bill is not Hillary. The candidate has to be slightly new but well established nevertheless.

Onpas aivan uusi tuttavuus tuo Mitt Romney. Kaikkea sitä Etusivulla oppii! :) Ihanko hänellä olisi realistiset mahdollisuudet vai onko tuo vain "wishful thinking?"It's generally thought he has pretty good chances. After all, he's the current governor of Massachusetts (Ted Kennedy's liberal state!!). Jeb Bush and John McCain are possibilities I suppose, but Romney has a very good track record, and despite of being moderately conservative (he's a Mormon!) Republican—did I mention—he's the current governor of Massachusetts! ;)

Well, he certainly sounds like a qualified guy but is he really experienced enough? Also, I don't think I'm the only one in UK who has never even heard of him, unless of course you're very politically aware. I'm only a Sunday-politician.... ;) But we certainly have heard of Gore, madame Clinton, Jeb McCain, Nader etc. and it will be interesting to see how things develop over there. Looking forward to some good discussion here... and I promise... I'll only follow eagerly and not state my opinions, as I really am not qualified enough. :)

Sure you are....more than so, all you have to do is to read Guardian and Independent semi-regularly and follow some BBC political commentary programs about us domestic/foreign policy/election debate, then bring that here as your own well thought out and original opinion, perhaps spiced with some your well known and colourful 'creative writing adjectives' .

Hey, in no time at all your opinions (based on acurate personal knowledge) become the benchmark...cornerstone of this highly euro-centered topic...

On a more personal note .....maybe wait until you start your own political blog on this subject...I'm afraid your succes may bring down lesser servers in your locale...good luck !!

Well, he certainly sounds like a qualified guy but is he really experienced enough?Did I mention he is the current Governor of Massachusetts (http://www.mass.gov/?pageID=gov2homepage&L=1&L0=Home&sid=Agov2)? :) Before becoming the president Ronald Reagan was the Governor of California. Before becoming the president George W. Bush was the Governor of Texas. So...Also, I don't think I'm the only one in UK who has never even heard of him, unless of course you're very politically aware. What else does a person need to do before they can be a candidate? I mean, to gain international fame? I guess the candidate could be the Secretary of State or something (but, for example, neither Reagan nor George W ever held such office). But we certainly have heard of Gore, madame Clinton, Jeb McCain, Nader etc. You've heard of Gore, Jeb McCain, and Nader because they all have ran for the president (unsuccessfully, I might add ;)). And, of course, Hillary "Whitewater" Clinton you know of primarily because she's the wife of our impeached ex-president, Bill "Cigar" Clinton ;). Perhaps it's the time for some new names who haven't yet gained notoriety around the world.

Johannes, tell that to the Democratic party. Perhaps we should have run her the first time already, instead of Bill.

I think dems know only too well already, the package they dont want..Slick Willie's dick in Monica's mouth when giving instructions how to bomb Bosnia or some other godforsaken place..with superior air power......well..something flew alright....and dems don't want people thinking about that....unless ..of course ...they REALLY REALLY want another Clintonian Experiment in the now famous Oral Office.....of which I'm sure Hillary is well capable of delivering!

Except that if Hillary is not nominated as the Democratic candidate, there will be a big cry for her having been disqualified because she's a woman. So at this point they can't win (either way) which, of course, is not really a surprise considering the lack of direction and charter the Democratic party is currently experiencing.

Before becoming a truly talented actor Arnold Schwarzenegger was a governor of California.

A good idea Zzeus! :allright: Have to keep a sharp eye on my lunch-time favourite (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/the_daily_politics/) from now on. Who knows, I might even become the new political fog-horn on Etusivu, a force to be reckoned with, who will tell you all how United States is to be run and by who!

Ville, it's always good to have "new blood" with fresh ideas on board, I'm not denying that. And if Romney is passionate and strong enough, believes in himself and his agenda... , why not go for it. After all, we had not heard an awful lot of David Cameron before he became the Leader of the Conservatives. And so far so good... he could even be prime minister material (http://www.angus-reid.com/polls/index.cfm/fuseaction/viewItem/itemID/13278).

Now that we have gotten over Johannes' ORAL OFFICE speech, this time in English, what do people here think of Hillary, does she make a president or not?
