What happened to the Mofile Place web site (formerly at http://www.mofile.fi )?

I used to use the site fairly often. Especially their online Finnish-English-Finnish dictionary.

Steve: It went away http://viestit.etusivu.net/old/frown.gif .. Some time ago the Mofile site had an announcement that it was going to be discontinued (particularly the dictionary). The announcement also said that the dictionary database, formerly freely accessible on the web, would be offered as a CD-ROM for some rather outrageous price. I wrote an email to Mofile administrators asking the reasons for why they had decided to discontinue the service, and suggesting they would keep it as it was really the only decent web-based English-Finnish-English dictionary, but I never got an answer.

My guess is someone got greedy, and started wanting more money for allowing the govenment instance (Ministry of Foreign Affairs?) to utilize the dictionary database online. At least it seemed that way based on how much they were going to ask for the CD-ROM version of the formerly-free dictionary.

Mofile Dictionary is there!!!

I have been using mofile dictionary for I don't know how long and I never noticed it wouldn't be there any more. If you want to use the dictionary just click the second banner from the top on the left hand side of the photo. Then, after you have been directed to an ugly yellow page, click the red "Kokeile Demo" link, and there you go. Easier it is to go directly to: http://212.213.217.194/cd/enfin4.htm and bookmark the page.

If they have disallowed others but *.fi domains, it's another story.

Alright! Thanks for the tip. I'll add the link back to Etusivun Linkit shortly.

Does anyone recall how mofile had a page in which you could type in whole sentences in english or finnish and it would translate the complete sentence? I miss this option very much!

Carmen: Did they ever have that option? Uh, I didn't know. Anyway, the problem with Mofile is that the only version of their online dictionary is a test version, which doesn't have too many options. Wish they had more money to upkeep their brilliant service!
