-Saint Urho Statue, Menahga, Minn.

Saint Urho(pronounced oorlho) is the brave man who battled evil giant grasshoppers in pre-Ice Age Finland and saved the country's grape harvest. He is memorialized in 12-foot-tall fiberglass statue and celebrated on Saint Urho Day (the day before Saint Patrick's Day). The catch? Saint Urho never existed. The story started in Minnesota in 1950s. The statue to the fictonal hero was constructed in 1982.

This was in our newspaper today, one more reason to go to Minnesota!( http://viestit.etusivu.net/old/smile.gif

Don't forget Heikki Lunta, god of snow, in upper Michigan. The term came from Hank Snow!

We drive by St. Urho quite often. But avoid the ealy summer, nothing but insects up there. August or September is good, also May.
